The new Youth Protection training requires that ALL adults that will be spending more than 72 hours a years, consecutive or non consecutive, must be trained on the new standards. With as active as all of our parents in the troop are, this is pretty much everyone!! We are able to do this as a group but if you cannot make it, you can do it online.

Where: Benshoff hill Gun club
Cost: $30-$40 per boy
Itinerary:
Friday: 6 pm meet at the club , set up camp. Snack will be provided please eat dinner before.
Saturday: Safety briefing in the morning,
BANG BANG BANG BANG, Lunch, BANG BANG BANG
Dinner, snack
Sunday: Clean up and be done around 11 for pick up at the range
We are planning to have some additional merit badges for those boys that already have shooting badges and need other badges. IE, Leather working, first aid. The details of which badges will be on here by Monday along with info about other upcoming events.
Please RSVP as soon as possible so we can make plans, buy ammo, food etc.

It is now July, which means we are half way through the year and need to settle the books. If you have not paid dues for the first half of the year, we need to collect them ASAP, if you are not sure if you have paid dues for the year, or if you want to take it out of your son's personal account, please contact Paul at 814-243-6320. This is very important to keep up with so please make sure you get it figured out!!
ADOPT A HIGHWAY
Troop 217 is currently submitting the paperwork to adopt a 2 mile stretch of highway that will need picked up twice a year, stay tuned for the details but this will be built in service hours and help keep the road up by the trailhead looking great!
SCUBA
Scheduling SCUBA certs for this many people is proving to be a challenge but we are moving forward with it and I should have all the final details very soon.

Stonyfest!!

Stony fest signifies the beginning of our wild and fun summer!!!!
We will be setting up at greenhouse park at 5pm on Friday. Breakfast will be from 7-9 or so, Dinner will be 5-7. We will be selling firewood the whole time.

SCUBA!!! What we know so far!!
Arrangements will be made through Randy's Dive shop in Irwin.
Budget for $525 per person
This is at a very reduced rate and should include your books, a snorkeling set with fins mask etc, all instructor fees, pool time etc.
Time commitment:
The course will be 6 classes and 2 open water dives in Altoona.
We will most likely have to be split into 2 groups
You CANNOT miss classes, they are pretty strict on this as missed classes are hard to catch up and the information is required to be covered!!
Anyone under age 15 will be junior certified which can be upgraded at 15
You must be able to swim 200 yards without stopping while wearing fins, mask and snorkel. You must be able to float/tread water for 10 mins, and you must be able to swim under water for 25 yards in a single breath.

All of the new scouts and most of the current scouts need camping nights and need to spend a night in a tent that they pitched, cook 2 meals and more.
We will have an overnighter at the scout church this Friday into Saturday to help fulfill some of these requirements!

Camping Trip for Saturday

Where: We will meet at the 271 trailhead parking lot
When: 5pm Saturday and returning around 9 am sunday

I will join the group with the new scouts at the lean tos as soon as blue and gold is over.
