Starting on the hiking trail!!!

This Sunday, Aug 27th we will be starting on a series of day hikes to complete the entire laurel highlands hiking trail and earn a really cool patch!!

We will be meeting at the trail head on 271, where we usually go to the lean tos, and will be hiking down to seward. It is about 13 miles and should take about 4.5 hours.

We will meet at the trailhead at 1 pm and leave from there.

If you cannot make it, don't worry, you can do this section on your own and all I need is a couple of pictures from along the trail and you will get credit for it, No big deal!!!

No food or snacks will be provided and there is no cost.

Solar Eclipse Patch

Next Monday there will be a solar eclipse. The boy scouts are offering a patch for this and the next one won't be until 2045!!! Click the link below to see details on how to earn this patch and next week at the meeting we will discuss who saw it etc. We will be able to see it from Johnstown so don't worry about the fact that we won't see it in totality.

24 hours to go!!!!!

The river level continues to be very low and will result in us carrying canoes and gear around several places to avoid rocks.

We will be going to the back up plan of canoeing on Kinzua Dam.

This also means we don't have to be in quite the rush so we will be meeting at 9 am at the church instead of 8 am.

We will meet up, do a gear check and head for the dam.

I will give everyone the address of the walmart up there in case we get seperated and everyone can grab lunch at the place of their choosing on the way up.

Please bring your money with you tomorrow morning.

See you all in the morning and if you have questions give me a buzz

Dan

Canoe trip details updated

Cost: After pricing food etc, cost has been adjusted to $15.00

Location: We will make every attempt to run the river, however, water levels right now are very low and we would spend a lot of time carrying gear around rocky portions. If this continues we will be leaving Roper Hollow Put in on Kinzua Dam, paddling to Hooks Brook to set camp on Day 1, Day 2 will be a day long paddle up to Onoville for Ice cream and to see the bald eagles. We will then return to camp at Hooks Brook for the night. Day 3 will break camp and paddle back to ropers hollow. Departure time will remain the same!

Please take a look at the list on the previous post and let me know if any of the adults are taking a kayak instead of a canoe. The boys will be in canoes.
